Cant Believe It
“…makes the people say YEAH”!!!
Undoubtably one of the catchiest tunes out this year, T-pain and Lil’Wayne continue thier winning “he raps he sings” duet. Lets face it, these guys need to put thier ego aside and form a group. Dont get me wrong, Im as big of a Lil Wayne fan as any other normal person but pairing him with T-Paine rounds a certain edge and makes Wayne alot more identifiable with the masses. Not to mention, T-Pain is instantly qualified in the eyes of the Hop Hop community. But hey, this would be too much like right so I digress.
The Video, while I really like it, leaves something to be said about why. Is it just me, or does this video seem heavily inspired by that old Michael Jackson music video animated in a themepark. I cant remember the name of the song, but Im sure a page was taken from that book.
Before I get into why I liked the video, I want to get all of the negative out of the way first. While its very cool to watch, it does beg the question why. Why go through all of the trouble of the computer animation and carnival theme in a song about a girl. While strange to follow(even more so than the guy that looks like a soccer player) I have have a theory on the over-the-top production. Most T-Pain videos have been pretty much the same and its safe to say that 70% were shot from the inside of a club. Club songs are his niche. But maybe he decided that something new was in order, and selling (correct me if I am wrong) upwards of 200,000 albums in the first few weeks of his last album’s release, he had the money to change it up a bit.
Which brings me to why I do like this video. Like T-Pain himself, the video dares to step outside of the cliche music video into…dare I say it…creativity. The word “creativity” is more taboo than the word ni**er in the music industry. I dont know who decided that videos were made better by a bunch of overpaid rappers and singers showing us cars, clothes and Jewlry we will never accumilate in our lives…and from what I hear…are rented anyway. So why??? I celebrate artist like T-Paine, Kanye West and others who have put thier necks on the chopping block in the name originality and creativity and we as consumers should reward this behavior. Lets face it, 50 cents “Window Shopper” is a low point the evolution of our generation of music. While I remain a 50 fan, I feel discerned that I am paying someone to tell me that I cant afford that you are buying with my hard earned cashed. Its time for a change, and T-Pain wasnt afraid to try it. I say Kudos, bring on more.
